New Year, New (Krill) Oil (Part II)

Happy New Year to everyone! Mom started us on krill oil today. It's really hard to squeeze out the oil according to Mom cuz it's soooo super thick! It's very unlike fish oils which are considered very diluted and leak out easily compared to krill oil.

She used a needle to poke through it as she couldn't seem to be able to twist open the capsule like the rest of our powdered supplements in capsules. It's also kinda weird as the capsule's only 3/4 filled.

Now she's gotta re-think on how to feed it to us haha! [update: Mom now uses a scissor to cut the tip of the capsule and squeezes the oil onto our (empty) bowls for us to lick since putting it on our cold raw meats might diminish the effects of the phospholipids. Read: However, DO NOT store it in the freezer or refrigerator; extended exposure to temperatures higher than 100 degrees ( 37.7 deg C) or lower than 50 degrees (10 deg C) diminish effectiveness of the phospholipid ingredients.)

Now she'll give us a capsule each once on Mondays and Fridays instead of 1/4 cap each every alternate days...

From the site:

We now deliver Pure Krill Oil in a "Licaps®" capsule instead of a softgel or caplique. Licaps use innovative “Fusion Technology” to seal a 2-piece capsule without the use of banding.
This extraordinary liquid capsule technology can provide many beneficial advantages over others because it…
  • Reduces oxidation potential by flushing the liquid formulation with nitrogen during the capsule-filling process – Creates a ‘freshness bubble’
  • Ensures 2-piece capsules are hermetically sealed to significantly reduce the potential for leakage – Yields a precisely tight, one-piece capsule
  • Enhances shelf-life through exemplary filling and sealing processes
The bottom line with Licaps… possibility for leakage is virtually reduced to zero while absorption is enhanced.

This is how the capsules look like if you're curious!
